VC Showcase lets Entrepreneurs meet some of the Hottest Venture Capital and Angel Investors in the Philadelphia area

11 Venture Capital and Angel Investor Groups present at FundingPost’s Philadelphia VC Showcase

Philadelphia, PA (April 11, 2005) – On April 19, 2005, eleven of the leading Venture Capital and Angel Investor Groups in the Philadelphia area will present at FundingPost’s (www.FundingPost.com) “Philadelphia VC Showcase” sponsored by Wolf Block. While most events only allow start-ups to either listen to a panel of investors or to pitch to investors, this event is a "Reverse Venture Fair" because the format allows Entrepreneurs to go and meet the Venture Capitalists and Angels in an informal environment where the investors are the ones providing information about their companies. As an additional benefit, the investors will receive summaries of all the companies in attendance. The FundingPost Event Calendar and registration information are online at: http://www.fundingpost.com/events.asp.

After completing successful events in the same format in New York City, Silicon Valley, Boston and Washington DC, FundingPost is bringing the “VC Showcase” model to Philadelphia to help local start-ups get the kind of access to Venture Capital and Angel investment they need to be successful in achieving funding.

During the evening cocktail party, eleven VC Funds & Angel Groups will be exhibiting their firms. Each Fund will have their own table setup for the sole purpose of meeting great new companies. Exhibiting firms include:
  • Avansis Ventures
  • Ben Franklin Technology Partners
  • Inflection Point Ventures
  • Innovation Philadelphia
  • Inverness Capital Partners
  • NJTC Venture Fund
  • PA Early Stage Partners
  • Robin Hood Ventures

NJTC Venture Fund is an active investor, providing from $250K to $5 million of capital over the course of a company's development. We have a preference to lead investments in companies seeking up to $10 million of capital to achieve profitable, sustainable growth.

The organization seeks to fulfill this goal through a program that: Increases the entrepreneurial economic development resources in the Region, Increases the amount of pre-seed and seed capital investment, Accelerates the rate of commercialization of market-driven technologies and support university research and tech transfer, Increases the research investment in strategic technologies for the regional economy from Federal, State, private and industrial resources.

Zon Capital Partners invests in businesses that we perceive to be at an inflection point in their development - companies in which there is ample evidence of market acceptance and proven technology implementations of their product or service. We invest in companies that have experienced managers and are exploiting a technological advantage to become a market leader in a defined information technology sector. Zon investments are in expansion stage companies, businesses that are generating revenue in excess of $1 million from paying customers for the products or services that are the basis of the company’s long–term growth plan. Zon will typically be the first institutional investor in the companies that we back and we like to lead these investments. Typical initial investments will range from $1 to $2 million as part of a total round of financing for a portfolio company of $2 to 7 million, with follow-on financing available as well.

Inflection Point Ventures provides venture capital and business support for early stage telecommunications, information technology, and electronic commerce companies with the potential to generate rapid growth in revenue, profitability, and shareholder value. We invest primarily in pre and post-revenue companies seeking their first round of equity financing. We prefer to lead or co-lead investments. Our initial investments range in size from $500,000 to $2,000,000. We expect the large majority of our investments to be located in the Mid-Atlantic States and New England.

VA Capital Patners invests in well-managed companies with outstanding growth prospects. We provide capital to support growth or acquisitions. We do not get involved in the day-to-day operations of our portfolio companies. Rather, we prefer to play an advisory role, especially in the areas of strategic and financial planning. We prefer to be the first institutional investor, investing $1 million to $5 million of equity capital per transaction in Business services, Health care service companies, Media and communications businesses, Insurance companies, and Retail businesses.

Avansis Ventures invests in and actively supports companies in mobile computing, storage, security, communications equipment, and software for the internet infrastructure. Based in Reston, VA, Avansis is a $10 million seed/early stage venture fund for companies primarily in the Baltimore/Washington, D.C. area. Strategically positioned as a feeder fund to select Tier A venture firms, Avansis looks for emerging market opportunities and then finds the best people and technologies of the companies addressing these new markets. We also match talented people with the right resources. As former entrepreneurs, we understand the difficulties of raising venture capital and the challenges of starting a new company.

Robin Hood Ventures is a group of experienced entrepreneurs and accredited investors interested in investing and taking an active role in early stage companies with high return on investment potential. We can invest $250K to $500K for a single financing, and will co-invest with other angels or institutions. Robin Hood Ventures, founded in 1999, takes an innovative approach to angel investing. Member-established direct investment accounts create a pool of investable funds that enable rapid decision-making. Robin Hood's consistent approach to due diligence and deal structuring streamlines the deal process. Robin Hood Ventures invests as a single entity and considers business opportunities that represent the diverse interests and experience of our members.
